Many of us have been inspired by Steven Hirshorn’s book ’Three Sigma Leadership - or the way of the chief engineer’. In this workshop we want to further probe the subject by sharing experiences in Technical leadership related topics with Steven acting as our guide and supervisor. For participating you need to bring yourself along with a story of a situation where you experienced a challenging situation where you, a colleague or your team had to act in a technical leadership role. Moreover, you should trace the experience to the relevant chapter in the Three sigma leadership book.

Pre-workshop preparation:

Prepare to recount a story of a challenging situation which required you, a colleague or your team to take on a technical leadership role. 

Trace the outcome to the relevant chapters in the Three sigma leadership book.

Workshop agenda

• Introduction of technical leadership by Steven Hirshorn
• An few examples of good or bad technical leadership 
• Groupwork - discussing challenging technical leadership stories, including success and/or failure factors
• Analysis in groups - why do we fail and how do we succeed?
• Group presentation and discussions
• Mechanisms for building a technical leadership capability - an example from Saab Aeronautics
  • Discussion on how to improve such mechanisms
• Open discussion and Q&A related to technical leadership with Steven Hirshorn and Annika Meijer Henriksson

A prerequisite for participating in this workshop is a familiarity with ’Three Sigma Leadership - or the way of the chief engineer’.
